Mr. John Kreider

Chair

Mr. Kreider has more than 40 years’ experience as an ocean engineer and leader developing and operating unique ocean systems and performing projects in unforgiving environments for commercial and government Customers.  Through 2017, Mr. Kreider was Senior Vice-President of Oceaneering Advanced Technologies (ADTECH) and an Executive Officer of Oceaneering International, Inc., a $2 billion publicly-traded company on the NYSE. In this position, he led an organization of 1500 employees and had broad P&L responsibility for all non-oilfield businesses, including manned and unmanned projects in space, undersea, and on land.  The business encompassed developing, building, operating, and supporting mission-critical robotic systems in demanding environments. Under Mr. Kreider, ADTECH received multiple prestigious industry awards for safety, innovation, quality, responsiveness, and security, including George M. Low Award, NASA’s highest award for quality and performance, Cogswell Award, DOD’s highest recognition for Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement, and multiple Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) Awards for Outstanding Achievement.  Mr. Kreider has developed and implemented strategies for a wide variety of ocean, space, and land robotics businesses, has managed acquisition and integration of three companies, and has actively contributed on corporate Steering Committees for HSE, Innovation/Strategic Product Development, Talent Development, Quality Management, and Government Compliance.

Prior to Oceaneering, Mr. Kreider was Vice-President at Eastport International (1987 – 1992), Vice-President at Arctec Incorporated (1982 – 1987), and manager at Shell Oil/Shell Development Company (1975 – 1982).  He has managed more than 50 projects, including major field programs offshore and in the arctic as well as analysis/design studies for underwater systems, offshore structures, and ships. He has authored more than 60 publications and technical reports and served on numerous technical advisory boards/committees. 

Mr. Kreider has been a member of the NOAA Ocean Exploration Advisory Board since 2014 and Chair since 2017, and he also serves as Sea Space Symposium Chairman.  Mr. Kreider earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University and MS and Engineer’s Degrees in Ocean Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
